Joining the Railway Swing Band was the start of a huge learning curve for me. I thought I could play guitar with my musical repertoire, grade 8 under my belt – no sweat, I thought. Oh Dear!
I had no idea the music I liked best was so complicated until I was confronted by the first chord chart, It was a foreign language. Slowly with practise from the rhythm section I began to assimilate this strange language of hieroglyphics – and what a background of great players to learn with!
To be part of a big band (and the RSB has a Big Band sound) is a great thrill – and marvellous cover for the odd blooper!
The RSB is a great experience whether you’re part of the band or the audience, or simply soaking up the ambience on the sofa from one of our Cd’s, available now,etc,etc…
